MEET THE ARTIST

I had art in my life from a young age watching my mom create miniature fairies that were collected by buyers around the world, but it wasn’t until I attended Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design that I developed my own relationship with art. I was able to experience so many different ways to express myself that I hadn’t tried, from printmaking and painting to ceramics and sculpture. After trying multiple mediums, I found my true passion in pastels. Because creating art was all-consuming for me, I had to take a step back when I had kids. In mid 2024 I started to create again and not only did I find new mediums that allowed me to express the spirit that a piece called for, one of them being encaustics, but I now have a more healthy relationship with creating. Art school has a way of directing who you are, and I have found that taking a step back has allowed me to find myself and what I really want to express with my art. Now it represents who I am and not who I thought I needed to be. Pastels have once again stolen my heart. I love how their perceived fragility is juxtaposed by their power of pigment. It is a truly wonderful medium that can last for centuries as one of the most permanent art mediums available.
When creating pieces, I believe it is important to look for life’s hidden beauties not just in bleak situations but also in our everyday lives. I want my work to portray the fragility and tenderness of the human spirit. My goal is to capture the emotions that we feel as we go through life, and to communicate these emotions with my audience. I want to inspire people to look for the magic around them, to find humor in a stressful situation, and to cherish the fragility of life.
